Six Steps to start Saving the Planet

Six Steps Index

  • Step 1. Understanding the problem
  • Step 2. Goals and Targets
  • Step 3. Solutions and Vision
  • Step 4. Educate and Campaign
  • Step 5. Declare the Climate Emergency
  • Step 6. Refine and Implement

Step 1. Understanding the problem

Understand just how serious the problem we face is and the magnitude of the changes we must make if we are to save ourselves, most of the human population, and the earth's ecosystems and species.

As evidenced by their proposed responses to climate change, most climate groups, political parties and business as still yet to complete this process, or if they have they are ignoring the results.

Want to discover just how serious the situation is? Find out more.

Step 2. Goals and Targets

Set the right goals and targets that will actually deal with the problem we face.

This comprises three key elements

  1. stabilisation concentration for atmospheric greenhouse gases - 300 ppm CO2 or less
  2. level of emissions we put into the atmosphere - Zero Emissions and active sequestration
  3. time line - as fast as possible which means 10 years or less for zero emissions and large scale sequestration, and peak emissions by 2010 or as soon as possible there after.

Why should we adopt these particular goals and targets? Find out more.

Step 3. Solutions and Vision

Create a positive vision for the future by developing the solutions to achieve the above goals and targets, while promoting the understanding that we can actually implement these solutions.

What would these solutions look like? Find out more.

Step 4. Educate and Campaign

Build public support and understanding of the problem and the solutions.

Campaign to create both political and economic pressure to implement the solutions.

Step 5. Declare the Climate Emergency

By formally declaring a climate emergency we can redirect the energies of our society into implementing the solutions on a national, regional and global basis.

Emission reductions in developed countries of 50% or more should be achievable once the public back a government led emergency responce by simply cutting back.

Why we must call for a climate emergency? Find out more.

Step 6. Refine and Implement

Adopt a process to implementation and refine the solutions, while developing new and better ones.

These solutions will need to broad ranging and broad focused incorproating social and technical elements and will need to be delivered to world as a whole.

At the same time the solutions developed must solve other systemic issues such as the global peak production of oil, creating sustainabe economic systems, and redressing global injustice to ensure the success of the climate measures and for the well being of all.
