Target 300 Campaign

Target 300 Campaigns are geared towards the rapid adoption of meaningful targets on climate change and adoption of appropriate technological and social responses. Our campaigns have a variety of focuses and objectives.

Taget 300 International

Target 300 is beginning an international campaign by having key parts of its website translated into other languages, starting with French, Italian, and Japanese. More translators are needed to cover different languages, so if you are interested contact us.

Zero Emissions Now

First developed in 2003, Zero Emissions Now campaign encapsulates exactly what we really need to do in a simple slogan, reminiscent of many past social and environmental campaigns.

This campaign is currently developing a new communication package that is likely to be released in late Feb or early March 2010.

Vote Climate

Established in 2006 Vote Climate is the worlds first dedicated climate change election website, providing comprehensives policy analyse and voting recommendations.

Climate Criminals

Over the past few decades and still continuing today, there has a deliberate and well funded campaign to discredit climate change science and action to stop climate change.

These campaigns have been prosecuted and funded by large corporations with vested interets in maintaining greenhouse gas producing industries, though in some cases they are run by conservative politicians and their supporters who associate climate change with progressive politics.

The climate criminals campaign is designed to put pressure on those who continue fund, drive and front the climate skeptic campaigns designed to spread mis-information and delay government and public action, by highlighting the strong likelihood that the keys players behind these campaigns will face for crimes against humanity at some stage in the future.

Gas

One response to climate change is to convert existing electric infrastructure to gas in an effort to reduce emissions resulting from high emission electricity produced largely from burnign coal. For example

The problem with this approach is that gas, like coal, is a finite fossile fuel and greenhouse gas.

Instead we should be creating zero emission grid and while using high efficiency electrical appliances. Gas infrastructure put in place now will have to be replaced over the next few decades.

Australia Specific Campaigns

Dont wRECk your Solar System

Australia's Rudd Labor Government has turn small scale renewable into the world most carbon intense for of electricity production. They have done this be encouraging owners of small scale renewable systems to sell their renewable energy as Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) to offset dirty electricity made largely from coal. If they use then renewable energy they will be using

This campaign has commenced with the production of a report titled How Kevin Rudd managed to turn solar photo voltaics (PV) into Australia's most greenhouse gas intensive form of energy production. The report outlines how selling of Renewable Energy Certificates under the Rudd Solar Credits Scheme burdens owners of solar PV systems with high levels of emissions for relatively little gain.

The RECs campaign seeks to alert owners and purchases of small scale of the consequences of selling their RECs, and encourage government to fund small scale renewables in a way that allows owners to retain the use of their renewable energy.

Campaign History

The Target 300 campaign's goal is to promote the understanding and adoption of appropriate targets, goals and solutions within the global environment movement, broader community, and our politicians.

The campaign began in early for 2008 after being inspired by James Hansen's work on but has grown from grass root climate campaigns dating back to 2003.

Our first campagin success was at the national grassroots "Climate Action Summit" in Canberra held on the last weekend in January adopted as one of their key campaign objectives for 2009 to: "Aim for stabilisation at 300ppm CO2 and strong international agreement in line with what science and global justice demands". Thanks to those such as David Spratt and Philip Sutton and many others who helped support the proposal at the conference. See the national summit website for more information.
